Exports and subtitle files
Which subtitle files can CaptionBolt export?
Short answer
CaptionBolt exports a captioned MP4 video plus subtitle and transcript files made from the same edited captions. The formats depend on your plan. Free: MP4, TXT. Starter: MP4, TXT. Pro: MP4, SRT, ASS, TXT. Max: MP4, SRT, ASS, VTT, TXT.

Formats by plan
| Plan | Files you can export |
|---|---|
| Free | MP4, TXT |
| Starter | MP4, TXT |
| Pro | MP4, SRT, ASS, TXT |
| Max | MP4, SRT, ASS, VTT, TXT |
Free MP4 exports include a watermark. Starter, Pro, and Max exports do not. Every plan includes all 338 caption styles; only the file formats differ.
What each file is for
- MP4 is the finished video with captions burned into the picture. Use it when the look you chose in CaptionBolt must stay exactly as it is.
- SRT holds caption text and timing in the most widely supported subtitle format. It carries no CaptionBolt styling, so the app or platform that plays it decides how captions look.
- ASS holds text, timing, and styling such as fonts, colors, position, outlines, and supported animation. CaptionBolt builds it with the same compiler as burned-in captions, but another app may substitute a missing font or handle some effects differently. Check the result in the app where you use it.
- VTT holds text and timing for web video players.
- TXT is the plain transcript, useful for show notes, articles, or social posts.

Where to download each file
Export renders the MP4. Subtitle and transcript files download from the Text Editor, which offers each subtitle and transcript format your plan includes. Every file follows the current version of your video: if you fix wording or trim the clip, the downloads match the edited result.
CaptionBolt downloads each file separately. It does not bundle them into a ZIP archive.
Using the files in an editing app
Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro can import SRT as a caption track. Use ASS when your player or FFmpeg workflow supports it and you want the styling to travel with the file.
When CaptionBolt is not the right fit
- You need translated subtitles. CaptionBolt captions the language spoken in the video and does not translate it. For other languages, you need a tool that offers subtitle translation.
- You want to restyle a subtitle file you already have. The Text Editor works from the transcript CaptionBolt creates. It does not import or replace captions from SRT, VTT, or ASS files. To change an existing SRT or VTT file into another format, use the free subtitle converter.
